The Bluer the Berry the Finer the Juice
Today is a very special day, marking the 100th... the ONE HUNDREDTH year of service for my illustrious first love, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
I need to let that simmer for a second or 11, Lol.
Founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University, also my wonderful Alma Mater, Zeta Phi Beta set out to make a mark on this world and my wonderful founders did just that.
I first gained interest in Zeta nearing the end of my somewhat Junior year on campus. Triggered by my interactions with Zetas on campus, even aspiring members that had influenced my life before officially becoming a member, I did my research and took a nose dive into the world that was Zeta Phi Beta to see what the hype was about this organization. After completing my research via the internet, books, and one on one discussions with members I decided to embark on that journey and April 3, 2014, I was presented to Howard University’s campus as a new member with my 13 other beautiful sisters.
That day was definitely life changing and has placed some extremely influential people in my life as well as afforded me the opportunity to influence so many others.
Today is such a beautiful day to look back on 100 years of service, sisterhood, scholarship, finer womanhood, love, and community outreach. I’m extremely thankful to those that paved a way for me to better learn who I am as a woman, mentor and servant. Without that experience and my membership I wouldn’t have the stance that I have to stand up for the things I deserve and the backbone to build an intolerance for mediocrity.
Who I am would not be possible without the efforts and vision set forth by my extraordinary Founders Arizona Cleaver Stemmons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts on the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love, and the ideal of Finer Womanhood.
To my impactful sisters, sorors, friends, and family, Happy Founders Day! We did It and there is soooooo much more waiting for us to tackle and contribute back to our community. Enjoy this milestone, celebrate your contributions to this outstanding legacy and remember to continue on your path to make Arizona proud. She would be in tears of joy to see the heights and altitudes we’ve reached in her name for our people and all the people surrounding us.
