Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists (Episode 1)

Episode 1 did not fail to deliver from what I expected this series to provide based on the PLL legacy. I was a little worried this new series would be a second rate knock off filled with references to its origin, but of course I had to watch it anyway…. I mean come on it’s Pretty Little Liars! Thankfully the PLL team has delivered and set the standard for a new murder mystery series.

The Perfectionists are an amazing new generation of liars and this first episode doesn’t even show how just yet, but seeing them with the original masterminds, Mona and Ally, is tantalizing and intriguing. I’m also curious to see what this new “A” will be titled. Of course Ally is in the mix of all the tragic happenings after just getting on campus, but will she be her own downfall? I don’t know what to expect but what if she winds up one of the characters that actually dies in this series? That would definitely be an exciting turn of events.

Mona is living up to her legacy and doesn’t shock us with her hand in the mixiness. I am, however, super excited to see what twists, turns, puzzles, and intricacies she’ll introduce into the plot. She is truly the protagonist I love to hate and I live for everything she gives me; including her quite undeniably jaw dropping sense of style. She’s already started with the mystery, I honestly thought something was off and she was on the road back to Radley, but of course there’s always more to the story. Mona is definitely still a mastermind and I think is going to have a more positive light in this series. I could definitely be wrong because we all know her, but I think I have a habit of seeing the best in the most disliked characters of a series or film.

This new “in” group that consists of Ava, Caitlyn, and Dylan is going to take us for some loops from what I can tell. I don’t think they’re as incident as they want everybody to think they are. Nolan, is on an island all by himself, however. I wonder if he’s going to a new age Ally since she projected her likeness on to him in this episode. I think the group he’s been blackmailing isn’t quite the same as Aria, Spencer, and Emily were; they give me the vibe that they’re more of the masterminds than the victims and I see some type of plot twist coming out of that.

I don’t want to give too much away from the first episode, but if you are a PLL fan you should definitely check it out. Those of you that already have, what are your thoughts and do you plan to keep on watching to find out what the story line will develop into? I personally love when I can catch a new series just as it begins because there’s no way to jump ahead 3 seasons and find out what happened, although, I did get into PLL maybe 2 seasons before it ended. Share your thoughts below, I can’t wait to read where everybody else is with this new journey!

Maybe I’ll do a new review at the end of the season to compare how things actually pan out against what my speculations are. Let’s see what comes next with this series, the next episode airs tonight on FreeForm, check it out if you’re interested!
