To: Women That Black
This is to the women that black
For the women that breathe in “There’s nobody that looks like you in that winner circle, you sure THIS is what you want to do?”
But breathe out and bypass the winner circle while being caretaker for home, feeding the homeless, and learning a new trade every six months because the gold ain’t the goal if we have it too…
Then still manage to drip sincerity, poise, and encouragement from their being.
This is for you
Because when I look in the mirror I see it too…
Immaculately high class, with brains out the wahzoo
They said nobody would ever listen to you
Here’s the kicker…
I do!
I heard your cry to be seen, covered in wondrous dreams of success.
Wounds doubled down because everybody’s aim was to see your dream repressed.
This is for the women that black
Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
And wouldn’t change that for the world, because we love the best this way
Ebony dripping in excellence, showered in strength
Look into their eyes, recognize their grace
They breathe in adversity and breathe out encouragement
Never too exhausted to add to your development
Forgiving with every bone in her body
She’s not the last thought you should have
Rather the first
Willing to bend over backwards even though it hurts
Black woman I see you
Opening doors and creating ways like magic
Never excited for the battle
But when the time comes can be quite savage
Don’t take the path to her core if you’re average
These black women, black without lacking passion
It’s not easy to let color fall away
When we’re made of everything from caramel covered hills to
Valley’s filled with dark chocolate,
And that’s all the world sees.
Brown skin, light skin, dark skin… BLACK
But still need a taste of our sweetness
They’ll never combat that.
This is to the women, that embody the power and take back everything black.
Don’t forget…
Your black is beautiful
That’s why they need that.
